In Vedic pantheon, the Divine serpents were considered the protectors of land and natural environment, since their bodies are always slithering on the surface of Earth. They are also considered to be the most intuitive, wise and sensitive of all beings, since they derive their wisdom directly from the greatest teacher: Nature. In yogic tradition, serpents also represent the power of vibration and above all, kundalini shakti – our spiritual power which, when coiled, is dormant and leads to lots of material attachments, but when awakened it can free us from all bondage.
